ID Number: DA08446
Maker: Darge Photographic Company
Place made: Broadmeadows, Victoria, Australia.
Taken at Broadmeadows Army camp.
The photographer’s register only lists Private Pinkerton so we do not know who either of the others are. The koala may be a mascot taken overseas when the soldiers embarked.

I wonder what they fed it, since koalas live off of eucalyptus leaves, which probably wouldn’t be available in a war zone.
I imagine that this photo was taken in Australia. Koalas are high maintenance animals if kept in captivity in Australia, let alone overseas!
You can see over on the right there that this photo was taken in Broadmeadows, Melbourne, Australia.
A few koalas did make it overseas as mascots. I have often wondered about their food, but eucalyptus tres do exist outside Australia so perhaps they were of the right type. if they took eucalyptus leaves with them on the ship transporting them, they must have been pretty dry by the time they got over there.
Hi, I’m an admin for a group called Australian portrait, and we’d love to have this added to the group!
